Pertamina, LEN and HyET Solar initiate cooperation to build Indonesia’s first thin film Solar PV factory
Jakarta, May 1st 2020
PT Pertamina (Persero) (“Pertamina”), HyET Solar BV (“HyET”), and PT Len Industri (Persero) (“LEN”) have initiated a cooperation for factory establishment of the HyET’s innovative flexible thin film solar PV (“Powerfoil”) in Indonesia. The three companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding on March 10th 2020 during the state visit of the King and Queen of the Netherlands who witnessed the signing ceremony. The initial capacity of the factory will be based on captive demand which focus on unique applications in oil & gas operation. As the demand grows, consortium has roadmap to expand production capacity up to 300 MWp per year in the event of achieving market competitiveness.
Mr. Heru Setiawan, Director of Planning, Investment & Risk Management of Pertamina says: “During this turbulent time that impact on our core oil & gas businesses, to maintain the project schedule we are focusing to generate baseline demand of amorphous Silicone flexible thin film PV on Pertamina storage tanks and refueling stations population as the market entry. While re-structuring annual CAPEX as all major O&G companies do at this challenging moment, Pertamina sees opportunity to improve economics of this thin film factory project by aligning the first production capacity with the captive demand in our internal oil & gas operation facilities. We are confident the product is well suited for Indonesian climatic conditions, competitive on cost against glass panel PV, and deliver benefits to domestic industries with large advantages of local content use as mandated by Government of Indonesia.”
Mr. Zakky Gamal Yasin, CEO of LEN adds: “HyET Solar’s technology complements well our current Solar PV portfolio. We expect to develop important synergies on technology development, factory operation and access to the Indonesian market. We are looking forward to the moment when the first Indonesian manufactured Powerfoil will become available.”
Rombout Swanborn, CEO and co-founder of HyET Solar says: “We are incredibly pleased to see this project come to life. A Powerfoil factory in Indonesia with its central position in the ASEAN region forms a critical element in our plans. We realize well the importance of having the strong and reliable partners in this project that we have. We hope we can look forward to many years of fruitful cooperation”.
Although the global trade has slown down due to Covid 19, the realization of the factory keeps moving forward.
